Nestled in the Willamette Valley area of Lane County, Pleasant Hill, Oregon is a small, rural town just outside of Eugene-Springfield. It is located on Oregon Route 58, approximately 11 miles southeast of Eugene and nine miles southeast of Springfield. With its towering evergreens and green pastures, Pleasant Hill offers idyllic countryside within minutes of the metropolitan area’s best shopping, dining, and economic opportunities.
Shopping and Dining
Though not known for its retail shopping, Pleasant Hill real estate is home to several, great-tasting local restaurants. With its friendly servers, delicious breakfast menu, and excellent dinner options, The Sunrise Café is one of the most popular restaurants in town. Gatehouse Pizza on Plaza Loop Road serves piping hot pizza with a wide variety of toppings, calzones, and fully loaded salads. For delectable, made-to-order burritos and tacos, residents head to La Cocina de Candelaria at Edenvale Road and Oregon Route 58. Though it serves up some of the juiciest chicken in town, Sundown Pizza & Chicken is best known for its freshly made jo-jos (seasoned, fried potato wedges). Groceries are available at Ray’s Food Place on Oregon Route 58.
Additional dining and shopping opportunities are available in Eugene and Springfield. The Oakway Center in Eugene features local and national shops and eateries, in an open-air plaza environment. Name-brand favorites, like Macy’s, JCPenny, Target, and Kohl’s, line the halls of both Eugene’s Valley River Center and Springfield’s Gateway Mall.
Parks and Recreation
Thanks to its beautiful rural setting, Pleasant Hill offers numerous outdoor activities for residents to enjoy the whole year round. Residents can hike, camp, kayak, canoe, snowshoe, ski, observe wildlife, and enjoy the breathtaking views at a number of nearby recreation sites.
Jasper State Recreation Site, located northeast of Pleasant Hill, runs along the Willamette River. A perfect spot for a family picnic or special event, the park features group shelters with cooking areas, picnic tables, ball fields, riverside trails, and a children’s playground. Its easy river access is also ideal for launching canoes and kayaks.
Dexter State Recreation Site, located just east of Pleasant Hill on the western edge of the Dexter Reservoir, features easy water access with a two-lane launch ramp, hiking trails, and an 18-hole disc golf course.
The Howard Buford County Recreation Center is situated between Pleasant Hill and Springfield. At 2,363 acres, the recreation center is Lane County’s largest park. Mt. Pisgah is the park’s central attraction, but it also is home to a 20-acre horse arena and 17 miles of hiking trails. The 209-acre Mount Pisgah Arboretum on the west slope of Mt. Pisgah serves as a living tree museum. Its trails and quiet paths wind through breathtaking evergreen forests, along the Willamette River, and through a white oak savanna. There also are water forests, a water garden, and a 2-acre wildflower garden at the arboretum.

Schools, Health, and Transportation
Though unincorporated, Pleasant Hill operates its own school district, which manages the town’s elementary and high schools. Pleasant Hill’s elementary school serves children from kindergarten through sixth grade. Children in grades 7 through 12 attend the Pleasant Hill High School. In addition, children in Pleasant Hill also can choose to attend the Emerald Christian Academy.
There are four hospitals located within 10 miles of town: Sacred Heart Medical Center at Riverbend, Sacred Heart Medical Center – University District, McKenzie-Willamette Medical Center, and Eugene Hospital and Clinic. Specialists at the NeuroSpine Institute in Eugene provide surgical and nonsurgical care to patients affected by brain and spine problems.
Interstate Highway 5 is west of Pleasant Hill and runs north to Eugene and Springfield and south to Creswell and Cottage Grove. Travelers can reach a variety of domestic and international destinations via the Eugene Airport and Amtrak.
